Backgrounds with gelatos and stencils : Tutorial

Hello everyone,
Riswana here today with my last post as Lulupu DT.! It has been a great journey being here with Karuna, super cool and sweet all the time, and my talented, supportive teamies Sindhu and Chirali. Thank you guys :* <3
I have a mixed media card and a small tutorial on how to create cool backgrounds with gelatos and stencils..

Let's begin with the steps:

1.Apply gesso
Apply one to two coats of gesso on the surface you are working on. This is crucial to get beautiful results..

2.Color with gelatos:
After the gesso has dried, apply gelatos in the desired color combination. It doesn't have to be perfect.!

3.Use stencil:
Place the stencil on the desired position (Here i have used the large stencil from Mudra so that it covers all of the surface). Use a wet baby wipe to wipe off the color through the exposed area of the stencil.

4.Seal with gel medium
Gelatos are not permanent. So it's better to seal it with gel medium. And the background is ready.!

Use different color combos and stencils to make beautiful backgrounds. Here's a mixed media card I made using the same technique.. Here i used multiple stencils.!

Sponged acrylic paints through stencils for the focal point, sentiment is from Mudra stamps.

Hope you liked it.! Here are some of my personal favorite Lulupu DT Projects :)

Thank you all so much for the support and love.! It means a lot :) <3

Create. Have fun.

Hearts & Arrows

Specific rules for this challenge are :

  1. Create a card, Layout, or a 3D project
  2. Use hearts, and Arrows ( both ) in your project, in ADDITION TO any other embellishments you     wish to use. The heart and arrows could either be fom a patterned paper, stamped, die-cuts, stickers,   hand drawn, wood veneer or sew on your project - just anything. But make sure hearts and arrows       are visible.
  3. Try and use colours OTHER THAN RED & PINK. Though RED & PINK ARE ALLOWED, we'd like to see how you get creative with the colours.
  4. Last date for submission of entries is 29th of February, 2016. 11;55 P.M. IST

But before you submit please read the general guidelines for the challenge here

Here is my love  layout cause our theme is Hearts & Arrows it mean about Love .

I use a pattern paper from Kaisercraft - Mix & Match Collection  , it suitable for my vintage style .First I tear one of a pattern paper and glued randomly , after that I apply white gesso with sponge.

I continued with more papers craps, pieces of lace and photo, building dimension layer by layer – great technique when you want to get rid of the paper pieces from your desk! Some 3D foams were adding extra dimension too!  Then I add a little colour with gellatos
I use some vintage boy and a little couple images  to my focal point.

I use a vintage stamp,  I added some stamping on the top of my white texture after that I tore the top and bottom of the paper, and glued with a card stock to make the page 12'x12'

I decorated the pieces , a wooden arrows , a heart die cut, flowers , a fussy cut of  butterfly and vintage clock from the paper.

and add paper flowers

The chippie Love Takes Times is my Title and I color the chipboard with ink spray and cover a little with Silks acrylic glaze.

Products you will find at the store :

Fun with Gelatos

Morning friends!
Hope are you enjoying the all the month long fun at the Lulupu 3rd Birthday Bash! You still have 48h to share your creations across three categories. For details visit the challenge post here.

Today lets have some fun with gelatos.
Here are the supplies you need -
Gelatos
Brush
Stencils
Gesso
Baby wipes
Tissue paper roll
Card stock

1.Prepare the paper by applying a layer of gesso (acts as a primer & makes blending so much easier), let dry.
2. Select gelatos of your choice & scribble on the paper.

3.Spritz water & blend the colors with a brush or get messy, use fingers for best results!

4.Or let the excess water run down by holding the paper upright to get a dripping look.

5.Once dry place a stencil over the CS & use a baby wipe to remove some color.

6.Gently roll a tissue paper roll over the stencil to remove excess moisture.

7.And here is the result of this simple technique!

7. I added some more color through the stencil, spritz with water & once again blend the colors with your fingers............with the stencil still in place.

This will give a lovely texture. Apply a layer of mod podge/gel medium to fix the color.

I made some bookmarks from the CS I used in these techniques.

Hope you too have fun with your gelatos & thank you for joining me today!

Mixed media canvas using gelatos

Hello Friends!!!
Neha here,  today I am sharing with you a mixed media canvas using different techniques with Gelatos.

Mixed media canvas

Gelatos are creamy, compact pigment sticks that glide easily onto paper, canvas, wood, and more. They give vibrant color and coverage and can be used dry (you can blend them easily without water by just using your finger) or dissolved with water to create cool watercolor effect.
In this canvas I have used Gelatos to color canvas using drip technique, with stencils, stamping, coloring stamped image etc. I also have a pictorial below describing the entire process.  So lets get started...

Steps:
1. I started with a thick chipboard and gessoed it. It gives a smooth and even background for the base.

2. Next I scribbled  Raspberry and watermelon from Gelatos Mix and Match tropical set in the middle of the canvas.

3. Sprayed some water over them using mini misters.

4. As gesso offers resistance, the gelatos simply dilute and pour down the canvas beautifully - rather than absorbing into it and appearing like blobs of color. I did the same in opposite direction also.

5. Sprinkled some salt to give it more dimension and texture.

6. When it dried, just removed it with a tissue paper.

7. You can see the effect of adding salt.

8. Next I used gelatos Margarita mix and Snow cone through different stencils and just blended them with fingers before lifting up the stencils.

9. You can also use Gelatos for stamping. Just spritz some water over the stamp, rub gelatos over it and stamp the image. The image is subtle and not sharp like you would get with ink. If you want a soft watercolor effect, this is a great way to go.

10. I used a couple of texture and script stamps from Bo Bunny and Butterfly stamp from Kaisercarft.

11. Then I used DIs Black soot and Vintage photo at the edges.

12. Added some more texture using Texture paste and stencils and our background is ready.

Now you can apply gel medium over the canvas if you want this background to be permanent or otherwise don't wet this surface further. When gelatos color dries completely they become archival.
Embellished it with some diecut, stamped and colored image- Prima bloom girl- Sharon, chipboard letters and some butterflies. I have colored the image with pencil colors, sketch pens and gelatos (butterflies). Chipboard letters also have been colored with gelatos (rubbed over it and blended with fingers). Used stickles over the butterflies on the image and then coated them with glossy accents. Also used Liquid pearls over the die cut clock.
Few close ups

So guys!! I hope I have inspired you enough to work with Gelatos. They come in a wide variety of colors which are available here
Thanks for stopping by!!! Don't forget to play along our monthly challenge- Love you SWEETS
Have a great day ahead!!!
