Spotlight designer: Chirali Shah

Hello friends!!
Neha here! Hope you are enjoying our current theme of the month.
                                                       Deck up your Home-Challenge#56  !!!

It's time to have another Guest Designer here at Lulupu. We have Chirali Shah here with us and she has made a Handmade Photo Frame along with pictorial. But first lets checkout a little more about her.

Hello people. First of all I would like to thank the whole Lulupu Team for giving me this opportunity. I hope you all like what I have created for this month's challenge 'Deck up your Home'. Before we start, a little bit about me.

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your family.

My name is Chirali Shah. I am a Chartered Accountant in practice by profession and crafting is my passion. So it is not my whole time job. But yes, Someday I would love to dedicate my everyday to crafting. I live with my family in Ahmedabad. A small family of Mom Dad Brother and Sister who has been married to the most loving and knowledgeable person.

2. How did you become interested in crafts and what inspired you to start blogging?

Before I got a Chartered degree, there was a high time when i badly wanted to do something that I love and by chance made a ring holder for sister's engagement, followed by birthday gifts for Jiju and a friend's sister. There I realised to make it professional. A friend's suggestion and family's support led me to step into this. As much as i explored, i found some people and blogs. The first person who inspired me for blogging is Mallika Kejriwal. I learnt a lot from her blogs so I thought of it if i can inspire someone.

3. What are some of your "go-to" supplies for crafting?

My "go-to" supplies for crafting are WRMK trimmer and scorer, cutter, PPs and my favourite embellishments flowers, laces and nowadays charms too.

4. What is your favorite crafting technique?

Embossing and mixed media is my most favourite.

5. How would you describe your crafting style?

Colourful and floral. Even if i think to make something vintage, i end up making it colourful.

6. How long have you been crafting?

Since 1.5 years.

7. My signature style

Arrangement of flowers. They will be arranged in one corner followed by lighter amount of flowers on opposite corner.

8. Who are some of your influences? Who has been your inspiration?

Almost every person whether she is new or experienced. A big inspiration is Mallika Kejriwal.

9. When not crafting , what keeps you busy?

My profession, movies and hanging out.

10. What are you currently working on?

Currently I am working on a mini album and a baby record album.

So here is my take on current challenge. It is a Handmade Photo Frame with pictorial. This will be a long post with photos for each detail. So let's start.

For a base, get a 23*21" sheet. Score it on 2", 3", 5", 6", 8" from all four sides so that you end up with 5"*7" rectangle in the center.

Then cut four longer sides i.e. 23" as shown in following image. There is a small 1" cut on that slick strip that is cut. See it closely.

It should result in this:

Do the same to opposite side and fold it:

Glue the outer sides of 2" and that small 1*1" portion of four sides. See below:

You can use a tacky tape too but I prefer glue just to adjust them when all the ends are sticked. Now stick straight parts

I forgot to glue those triangles before. They are not mandatory but if you glue them, there won't be any space between boxes you are making.
Now, you need to be little careful. Those 1*1" small parts should be adhered inside the sticked straight parts so that you won't see any space in between boxes.

It will end up like this. Pretty, isn't it? Now embellish it. I embellished inside first because i wanted to cover it with a plastic. You can keep it open too.

Now adhere a plastic and then paper and embellish it.

Before I show u final look, one thing is left and that is stand of a frame. So get a leftover from that 23*21" sheet, score them every 1", cut 2" and fold it as shown in image:

Stick it as below image and Cut extra portion from that triangle side so strip will be 1*6". Fold it from 3". That extra score of 1" won't bother you so don't worry.

Take a small strip of 3" from those leftovers only and fold it on 1". Glue them and stick as shown

You can adjust them as per your requirement of slope of frame. I like to keep a little slope so have kept it tight. Now stick on back side.

Frame is ready. :) now final look:

I adhered that net on back of flowers and lamp with Mod Podge. Colourful butterfly is a result of washi tapes. I adhered 4 washi tapes on paper and die cut it. There is a yellow washi tape as a lamp light on back of a lamp. And border of a frame is also a combination of two washi tapes.

Some closeups:

I hope you enjoyed it.

Chirali. :)

Lulupu store has an amazing range of Mod podge and lovely prints of washi tapes. Check them out here.
For this challenge I have decoupaged a mdf tissue box.

I have used gorgeous Prima royal menagerie PPs.

 Top view

After cutting PPs in appropriate size I distressed their edges with Shaded lilac and seedless preserves DIs. Thereafter, decoupaged them to box using matte mod podge (part of my DT kit). Added some color using stencil and distress ink and texture using modelling paste. Embellished using flowers, pearls, crochet lace, stone lace, charms, resin frame, glitter and washi tapes.

Some more pics

The flowers are handmade using heartfelt creations arianna blooms stamp and die set. For making leaves I have used washi tape on paper and then used it to die cut leaves giving them a fabulous print. I have also used washi tape (Included in DT kit) on the bottom edges of the tissue box.

I am very happy with the final look of the box. Hope you like it too. You can link your entries below.

Make a Mini: Z flap album tutorial

Hello everyone
Neha here with my second post for this month. This month's theme is make a mini and you can find all challenge details here.

Toady I am sharing with you a pinspired Z flap album and I have prepared a pictorial as well. This one is a flip album and has been done with stack the deck binding. Each page in the album has a flap on one side and a pocket on other, holding a photo mat. U can add photos on both the sides of flaps as well as on photo mat, so there is space for 5 photos on one single page only. In total it has space for 30 pics with just 6 pages. Isn't it great! And its super easy to make.
The size of album is 6*7 inches. The covers are made of chipboard. For this album I wanted to do something different from my usual style. So here I decided to use Altenew vintage roses and flowers stamp instead of using any dimensional flowers and I really love its final look. It has a photo mat as well. The PPs match so well with flowers. Also used Prima wood veneers, glitter heart and liquid pearls.
Here are few more pics

And now comes the pictorial for the album. I have prepared step by step instructions along with the pics for a better understanding. The album cover is 6*7 inches in size and binding is stack the deck which you all must be familiar  with.
Here are the steps:
1. For the pages we need two different types of CS.
A- type

A type- It measures 4-1/2"* 8-1/2", score this one at 5" on 8-1/2" side (as shown in pic). As you can see in the pic there is a 1/4" overlap at one end, do not score at this point just mark it. Prepare a second piece of same measurement.
 B type

B type- It measures 11"*6-1/2". Score this at center i.e., at 5-1/2" and fold it.
So in total we need two pieces of A type of CS and one piece of B type of CS for making a single page of album.
2. Next we are joining the two narrower sections of A type CS together and if u look at them while holding up, they form a "Z" shape, that's why the name Z flap album. Add a strip of tacky tape to the 1/4" overlap on one of the piece of A type CS and attach the other piece of A type CS to it but it should be inverted (see in the pic). The two pieces are joined now but they are in opposite orientation, one has a valley fold and other one has a mountain fold.

3. Now to create the pocket portion of the page we will take B type CS and the center section of the "Z" shape is slipped down inside the B type CS. Its placement is in a way that a 1/4" space is there at the bottom/top on both the sides.

There is a open space above which will be used for attaching the pages to binding.

4. Next keep the open portion up, open the flap (on bottom) hold it in place, hold the center portion down. add a thin line of glue along the edges and fold back the center portion again and glue it.

Flip it over, Now open portion is at bottom and fold on top. Open the flap and lift up the center portion and glue it as we did above. While gluing the center portion please make sure that you maintain the 1/4" space at bottom/ top on both sides.
So we have a open space on side and flap on the other, on both sides of page. Make other six pages in the same way and as I had mentioned above also use the open space on top for attaching pages to the binding. Make tags for the pockets and the album is done. Embellish it using your favorite pps and other embellishments.
Hope you like it. Add you entries for current challenge here.
Hugs!
