Paper Quilling Online Video Class | By Lulupu & Infinite Emotions

Hello, Dear Crafters!

We have some amazing news! We are excited to present to you our first Online Video Class - A Beginner Course in Quilling. A very delicate art of creating unique shapes by rolling and pinching paper strips, not only is Quilling fun & easy to learn, it is also one of the least expensive hobbies. Quilling is also known as Paper Quilling or Paper Filigree.

To bring these tutorials to you, we have collaborated with Infinite Emotions - The Card Shop, a venture by Nikita Azad - one of the members of our First Design team here at Lulupu. Nikita has been Quilling since July 2010. You can see her work here, here and quite a lot of it is even on this blog. :)

She learnt the basics from the pamphlet that came along with a beginner Quilling kit she purchased at the mall, reading books and watching videos online. However, over the years, she developed quite a few DOs and DON'Ts of her won through trial and error. It was then that she realised that there wasn't a comprehensive Quilling Course that taught not only the HOW-TOs and WHATs of Quilling, but also the WHAT-NOT-TO-DOs and the WHYs of it. So she decided that she'd make one and that's what we have for you here.

But what's in these videos that you won't find in dozens of other videos available online for FREE? Well, other than being able to watch it anywhere, anytime, at your convenience, here's what...

Using your Scraps | Die-Cut Quilled Roses

Hello!!!

This is Nikita here and after a really really long time, I am posting one of my projects here!! How have you all been??? I am sorry I haven't been visiting your blogs to check your entries for the challenges, but I will do that soon. I have just moved and unpacking and settling in has taken a bit of time and lot of my energy. But enough excuses; let's get back to talking about what I have to share.

For the current challenge, you have to use your scraps. Initially, I was completely lost because it seemed like I had used up all of my good ideas here. (Video here) But then, I thought of something.

I was itching to use these Rose dies from Quilled Creations (destashed by Pratiksha) and what I thought it would be perfect for scrap pieces of PP.

Here's a glimpse of Tilda..

Lulupu Challenge #15 - Weather or not..

Hola crafters..

Nikita here and I am going to reveal a brand new challenge. On second thoughts, the post title does much of the revealing even before I begin typing (rather, you begin reading.) We have got to do something about that :P

Anyhoo, this month we want you to create magic on your projects. Notice how we said projects and not cards?? That means you can create anything you want!!!! As long as....

Challenge #15 - Qualification Guidelines
{General Guidelines here}

1. Create a card, layout, altered project, tag, 3D project... absolutely anything, that depicts the weather
It may be the weather you are currently experiencing or you could choose to show Summer, Spring, Winter, Autumn, or the Rains, on your project. You could also create a view of some place like the beach or the mountainside with a sparkling river and boats on them or a clear starry summer sky. {Enough ideas from me. I need to shut up!)

2. However, the project must show a scene and not just one element of the weather
For example, one snowflake on your project, will not equal a winter scene. Similarly, one umbrella, will not equal a rainy scene. Paint a picture for us (so to speak).. think of your project as a canvas and go crazy.

3. (This one is the most important one) If in doubt, check with us!! :P
It breaks our heart to see beautiful projects that don't fit the challenge theme. So if you are confused about this, leave us a comment here or write to us at hello@lulupu.com with your questions before you start work and one of us will get in touch with you to help you out. Simple! :)

And guess what the winner is going to be able to lay their hands on???
THIS!!!
Rather, THESE!!! {Silently drools... :P}
If I could have played along, for this, I really would.

Memory Box + Bonus Inspiration!!

Good morning crafters!! (Although, I am guessing it might already be after noon by the time I am done posting :P)

Nikita here and today, I am going to talk about Memory Box Dies that are available in abundance at the Lulupu Store. They are unique and their designs are so amazing that they easily manage to make the most simplest of projects, awesome with just a die cut added in the mix. And as this month's challenge requires you to add a die cut to your project, I'm hoping it will be helpful. :)

Guest Designer for February - Shivani Singh

Hello there!

Have you entered our challenge yet? Its a fun one :) For all the details about the challenge do check out the Lulupu Challenge#9. Do give it a try!

For the first guest designer of the month we have invited one of the TOP 3 creations winner from our Challenge last month, the very talented, Shivani Singh. :)

Now, lets hop on to see what she has come up with today to inspire us!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi to my friends in the blogland
I am way too excited for my first post as a Guest DT on such a creative and wonderful blog of Lulupu…for me its surely a dream come true!

I am Shivani. I am a Postgraduate in Business management and I have over 7 years of experience
in the corporate world. I am happily married to an IT guy (sounds techi…huh), currently looking
after my own IT venture and enjoying the Motherhood of 2 little angels. They are my soul!! I
love to explore new arts and I thoroughly enjoy dancing on my favorite tracks. As an individual I
have always tried to transform my thoughts into arts…Though I love to do quilling, cards and LO a
lot…apart from this I am also learning mixed media art. Will be showcasing some of my creativity
soon and would always love to have your comments and feedback! Art makes me feel stress-free!!

Now for this month theme, here is something which I want to share with u all J this month
challenge brings in the creativity at its most…SPLASH OF COLORS!! When I thought of it…I thought
of colors complimenting each other in some way or the other. I believe every color has its own
uniqueness and if used cleverly they can say more than words…

This months theme is SPLASH OF COLORS and I worked with 5 colors not from the same family…and
the twist is to use the punches innovatively!

I have made a quotation LO. I love to work on A3 as there is more room for creativity, coordination
and later on, it can be used for journalising/pics. I have divided it in to two parts. For the base
I have used orange glitter sheet and with a balloon and heart punch I have made few flowers
complimenting with leaves and bling.

I have used a beautiful Martha Stewart’s punch to make a borders with different colors…that
reminds me of holi actually (wink*) On the other half, again I have used Martha Stewart’s (punch all
over the page) and it came out beautifully I guess! I love to play with washi/fabric tapes and you can
find soooo many at Lulupu (don’t forget to check)…they really make your projects fab. Sentiments
are computer generated and I have used Tim Holtz Distress Ink with a blending technique to put a
color splash..u can find small floral punches there to…with quilled flowers!

With this, I would like to thank Karuna and Lulupu team for giving me such a wonderful platform to
interact with people like you.

Hugs!

Shivani

Quilled Embellishments

Good morning people... :D :D

I've been having a great time learning how to make embellishments on my own from the lovely ladies on our team. And I can see that you guys have been having a great time playing along too. So allow me to add a few tips at making your own embellishments, using Quilling strips.

I have had the chance to go through the submissions for this month's challenge and many of you have used Quilling. :) But I would like to mention one thing though. Most of the Quilling I have seen only has flowers and leaves or variations of that. But there is so much more that can be done with Quilling. You can try anything from animals to birds to even food items like cup cakes (I've seen Quilled cupcakes and chocolates, and they look yum!!!!) The list is endless. It's just a suggestion and you have eleven more days to come up with something awesome and we can't wait to see what you guys cook up.

Speaking of doing something other than flowers for Quilling, I decided to go with fruit. Not something very difficult or complicated, but fairly simple - a Lemon. You go about making it just as you would make a flower, but with a few things different.

I also made a braid using the Quilling strips. Here are a few pictures of the card I made...

To know more about how the card was made, watch the video..

Hope you guys had fun!! See you soon!! Keep Quilling...

If Raindrops were kisses...

Today is just the third day since the launch and most of those in blog-land already know what Lulupu is. It’s been so amazing to see the huge response and kind words of encouragement that have been sent our way the past two days. For all that and more, please accept a heartfelt thank you!!!

For those who are new here, Lulupu is just a better version of the store you already knew as Crafting Queen store. Yup, you guessed it right; it has been thought of and brought to life by Karuna. She has been helping all of us get all the crafty things we desire for quite some time and this is just an easier version of our shopping experience.

Lulupu also has a Design Team and we fondly call ourselves the ‘Lulu Poohs’ and it’s our job to create beautiful pieces of craftwork and inspire everyone who loves paper craft; and it feels great to be one among six other awesome gals who’ll be doing this on a regular basis now.

So you’ve already met Tejal and seen her pretty design with butterflies et all, and her video that shows how easy it was to make that card :)

Now it’s time for me to show you what I’ve created.

But before that, let me introduce myself. I am Nikita Azad from Mumbai and I’ve been crafting for just a little bit over a year now. Besides crafting, I teach at a coaching class and I’m an aspiring writer. I guess that’s enough for now. There’s loads of time for us to get to know each other.

For this project, I decided to make a simple card using the lovely and colourful papers by Hello Sunshine that Lulupu has in stock currently, along with a little bit of Quilling to add as embellishments. Those of you, who’ve seen my work before will know how much I love Quilling and here at Lulupu, I will ensure that most of my work will be Quilled. Yay!

So without wasting any time, here’s what I made.

Aaaaaad... Surprise! Surprise! I have a (pretty detailed) How-to Video too!!

Now, before you watch it, let me warn you; it was my first time doing a tutorial video and I’ve recorded this on my webcam and worked right in front of my computer monitor to be able to do so. As a result, there’s some really bad lighting, the angle is worse (because I had to flip the video 180 degrees for it to look straight) and the editing it just manageable. I promise that from here on, the videos will only get better(I promise to at least try :P). But till then, bear with me.

Criticisms and suggestions will be appreciated!!! :)

Queries are most welcome and the Lulu Poohs will be happy to answer any question(s) that you have and they need not be just about this project!!

(I can only hope that you) Enjoy the Video! ;)
