Embossing magic- Cards

Hello friends!!! This month's challenge is all about usage of embossing powder in different ways in your projects. There are so many ways in which you can use them, create backgrounds, emboss the image and use watercolors/DI for coloring, emboss resist, over vellum etc.

Click here to read challenge guidelines and here for more about this months challenge.

I have made three cards as inspiration for this challenge. For the first card I took a watercolor paper and heat embossed one of the altenew persian motif stamp using golden EP. Then colored it using DIs Worn lipstick and mowed lawn. I slightly water-colored the panel with DI. Matted it over a matching green card base. Stamped the sentiment with black archival ink on a banner. For final touches added some sequins.

Second card one is a shaker crad.  For this I have heat embossed the same stamp set as used above with white EP, colored with DI's and fussy cut them. Prepared a shaker panel with white CS on a white card base and arranged the embossed flowers on one corner. Added some stickles glitter glue on flowers. The sentiment inside the shaker has been also embossed with mustard color EP. Added some sequins.

And for the final card I have used stamp set lacy scrolls from altenew. Heat embossed one of the stamp from the set several times on a white card base using glittered black EP. Stamped flowers and leaves on a white CS and fussy cut them. Added some shading using color pencils and glued them over the embossed panel using foam dots to add some dimension. stamped sentiment using black archival ink and finished off with some golden sequins.

The Triad Tree - Watercoloring with Distress

Dear Crafty Friends...

A big hello to all of you!! Hope you are enjoying the month of April with loads of watercoloring techniques being shared by the DT members. Today I have a super simple watercolor technique to share with you all.

The Triad Tree - Using Primary Watercolours

These are some of the beautiful results I got by using just 3 primary colors - Yellow, Blue and Red.

The tutorial is really simple, all you need are the watercolors, a round paintbrush, watercolor paper, a mini water spritzer and heat gun!

1. Start by tapping watercolors onto the watercolor paper - Yellow, followed by Blue and finally by Red. I would suggest you all to practice the tapping on waste paper before you finally get a hang of it. You can also control the amount of color by using less/more water and by tapping closer/ far from the paper.

For tapping the paint brush, you can either use your fingers or a wooden spoon/stick. It helps controlling the paint splatters.

2. Once the colors are all tapped in, the real fun begins.. Bring out your mister and spray lightly on the paper till the colors start moving and blending.
3. Use the heat gun to set the colors dry.
4. You can paint the branches and the tree trunk using a darker shade of watercolor.

Voila, you triad tree is almost ready!! All you need to do is add your sentiments and pop it up on a card panel. I have used various sentiments directly on the card / or on a vellum strip.

So, let you imagination run wild in making these simple triad trees! You can also experiment with various colors to get different effects. I was aiming at a spring look and hence the bright colors.

Hope you liked the cards and the quick tutorial. Don't forget that we have a month long challenge which is open upto 30 April 2015! The winner gets to take home some yummy products from Lulupu!

Love,
Dolly

Water- coloring with Distress inks

Hello friends!!
Neha here! This time the theme of challenge is to make a card using watercolors.

I have prepared two cards for the current challenge with stamps and distress inks using wet on wet technique.
Here are my cards.
First card

 Second one

On a watercolor paper I stamped the flowers (Penny black stamps) with archival jet black ink. Then colored the image with distress inks (barn door, mowed lawn, mustard seed, spiced marmalade, vintage photo, scattered straw). Thereafter colored the background, used some texture stamps from Bo Bunny around the image and finally stamped the sentiment. Matted this water colored panel over a white CS (colored with distress ink) using foam dots to add some dimension.  I enjoyed water coloring so much that I ended up with two cards.
Hope you also like them.
So do join us in the current challenge here.
Hugs!!
