Hello Dear Friends!! :)
Today, we have Suzna - the winner of our January Challenge - joining us here to be our Guest Designer! She has made beautiful altered projects! But before that, let's know more about her. Over to Suzna!
I had the great pleasure of being this month's Guest Designer over at Lulupu. Hope you all liked my last month's card linked to 2-0-1-6 Recipe Challenge! Thank you to Karuna for asking me to be here!
1. Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
Hi, my name is Suzna KH from Kerala, married and now settled in Bangalore. I am a B-Tech graduate in Electronics and Communication, but I’m interested in crafting. I worked earlier but quit my job as soon as I conceived my adorable little boy and now I am a stay at home mommy fully dedicated to this wonderful role of motherhood. Also, balancing time with my passion for crafts.
2. How did you become interested in crafts and what inspired you to start blogging?
Since I was 7, I loved color papers. I remember I used to make paper flowers when I was in 3rd Std. So, I would say I have been crafting all my life. It was during my college days that I started glass painting, steel wire tree with beads, mini plaster of paris flowers, etc. I started becoming serious about crafting 2 years ago and it inspired me to go ahead and start a blog, a facebook page for my creations and participate in blog challenges. I am just growing day by day and totally loving it! :)
3. What are some of your "go-to" supplies for crafting?
Canvas, any metal or MDF based product, Laser cut chippies, Mists, Mode podge, Prima products, Pattern papers, inks, die cuts, stamps, ribbons and laces etc the list is endless for any passionate crafter ;)
4. What is your favorite crafting technique?
Mixed Media & Fussy cut art
5. How would you describe your crafting style?
Lots of flowers, sometimes colorful, something vintage and then I end up making a Garden. :)
6. How long have you been crafting?
I started crafting after my marriage & now it’s about 4 years. I happen to do some projects as a hobby and post it on facebook for friends who appreciate and encourage me - especially friends like Pon Malar and Rhizwana. They encourage me a lot!
7. My signature style
I like to bring garden into my projects & love altered art
8. Who are some of your influences? Who has been your inspiration?
India: Dr.Sonia Subrapha, Anchal Sapra, Jaya Raguvanshi, and Rajni Chawla
International Crafters: Gabrielle Pallacco, Elena Morgun, Miranda Edney, Arlene, Tati, Anne, Rachel Black and I keep bumping into blogs of many crafters who do wonderful projects.
9. When not crafting , what keeps you busy?
My son Adam, cooking is another of my passions, and shopping!
10. What are you currently working on?
I am currently learning stamping techniques, also have some pending mixed media photo frame work.
My inspiration for you all for this challenge is another altered art I made!
a. First of all you will need a metal box, it is my hubby’s wallet box, lengthy screw and 2 pringle chips base part
b. Add 4 chipboard round piece for strength.
c. Make a hole for a stand.
e. This is what am planning for, separately decorate, base part and frame part
f. Starting off with empty box, Prime the surface with a coat of black gesso. Allow to dry after that apply a coat of prima clear crackle. Once it is completely dry (keep it for 4 hours) and apply Prima white sand texture paste randomly.
g. Add your embellishments with a strong adhesive... here I used Tracky Glue and glue gun. Allow to dry completely. Now we need to a coat everything with black gesso, and white gesso with dry brush. Gesso is to prime the surface so as to spray them with mists
h. Start spraying on box with Golden doubloons colors of Lindys Stamp Gang spray randomly over the tin.
i. After adding photo I added flowers, golden heat embossed heart die-cut and painted gate die-cut chippies.
j. Apply Inka Gold to finish and highlight everything, it make everything pop. I use my finger for better control.
k. Ranger’s Glossy Accent product gives 3-dimensional effect, it can be used to create wonderful effects on craft projects. This medium dries to a hard, clear, shiny, and resistant finish.
m. These are the things I used: Gesso, paints, clear crackle, white sand, inka gold, tracky glue and all kind of treasures to add. I got my hands dirty and I loved every minute of it.
Here are some close ups
