Guest Designer- Jayashree Reddy

Good morning everyone!
This is Hussena here and I am very happy to introduce our guest designer for this fortnight, and it's Jayashree Reddy from the blog C|R|A|F|T|Y . She is a relatively new blogger, and has already a very own defined sense of style for CAS and trendy cards. If you've ever been through her blog, the one thing that really strikes you is how very chic and modern her work is! Very much in par with all the International crafters and we are happy to have her a s our Guest Designer here at Lulupu. So,without further ado, here's what she has to say about herself.

Hi everyone,
This is Jayashree from Bangalore, I am a UI Designer by profession turned to stay at home mom for my 21 month old little charm and a hobby photographer. This awesome world of scrapbooking was introduced by my sister. Stared this craft to record my little one’s memories, and is always amazed by the difference scrapbooking makes in memory keeping process. Also a blogger since 2012 (c-r-e-a-t-i-v-e--bee.blogspot.in).

A quick CAS card.
CAS cards are my all time favorite, I always love to experiment the techniques with CAS cards.
I stamped the text background with Simon Says On Edge Stamp and Heidi swap clear stamp set in Black and Pink inks. Distressed using Black shoot, have used washi tape as well for the edges. Then adhered it to Black card stock. And heat embossed the “So happy for you!” sentiment, added pearls and blings.

Isn't Jayashree's card just perfect and so beautiful ? What a fabulous take on our current challenge of Black, White and a a pop of colour. I hope her card has inspired you to join in all the fun at Lulupu. You still have TWO more days to go! :)

Mixed Media Card With Black,White and Rose

Hello Beautiful Crafters,
Shilpa here,
My all Lulupu team members have created amazing projects to inspire you for our
And I believe you liked our theme of this fortnight too, Already we have beautiful entries, you still have time till 30th September, to link up your projects. It should be card, Layout or Tag

I made Mixed Media Card with this theme. And With Black and White, I've chosen Rose color.

I'll explain the process of making this card.

You will find white circles in the background, I created them with Sakura Modelling paste and Crafters workshop Circle grid template. Next I used Alpine Ice Magicals from Lindy's stamp Gang. I took very little amt of Magicals powder and added water in to that. I created drips on my card, and let color flow to get watercolr background. I made some splatters with the same rose color.

Next, I adhered torn pieces of text paper from Lemon Lush (gorgeous paper pad) at two three places on the card. At the edges I applied little bit of  Dina Wakely gesso. I  love the smoothness it gives as a base for surface. My new favourite Gesso :-)  yes I use tons in my mixed media work.
As you know mixed media is all about layers, I created next layer with stamps and Ranger Jet Black Archival Ink, it is best, works on all surfaces. Lulupu has brought new wonderful textured stamps, you can find them here. I've used Almanac Cling Rubber Stamp,
I created some more texture with Crafters workshop specimen stencil and Black Soot distress ink
And again splatters of rose color...... my background is ready.

Wonderful butterflies are from Penny black Social Butterfly set, aren't they beautiful. I stamped them with ranger black Archival ink, fuzzy cut them and adhered on the card. Sentiment is also from same stamp set. I've used Spellbinder's Tag 3 to cut the banner. I colored it with rose magicals at the edges.

Hope you liked my mixed media card, make something with this unusual color combination.

Lots Love
Shilpa

Black and White + Hot Pink!

Good morning, guys! this is Deepti and I'm here with a very very very simple and quick card for the current challenge here at Lulupu where the theme is to make a project using only 'three' colors.. Well.. I've chosen hot pink with black and white color combo. This hot pink stands out really fantastic against black or white back grounds..

So here is my card and kindly click here for more details about the challenge, it's rules and it's regulations and for many more details..

Okay! To make this card, I first stamped the back ground with the circular stamps in Archival Jet black ink. Then at the bottom of the card I adhered a black card stock and stamped 'thank you' sentiment from Hero Arts in Color Box white pigment ink. Then tied a bow (cheater's method) and the ribbon is from Kaisercraft.. So this is a very simple and quick card and I think there is nothing a lot to discuss about.. ;)

Well.. I would like to share the advantages of these type of cards..

1. If you have a specific idea, plan and sketch in your mind then it's very simple to make these type of cards.
2. They are not very time consuming
3. You can mass produce them easily..

Very simple rt? but remember with out plan or idea, making a 'cas' card, (not only cas style any style) is not very easy. You have to do a lot of home work and you have to think a lot if you want to be unique.. ;)

Oh! enough blah blah blah!! Ok friends, hope you like this card and hope you guys would give it a try with

Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving me a comment.. ;)
Take care!!

(Tutorial) Black and White with a POP of .........Gel Medium?!

Good morning friends,

Kripa here from beautiful, sunny Sydney. Its starting to get warmer here and I couldnt be happier. Warmer weather also means my mixed media projects will dry quickly and I don't have to wait overnight. ( I don't use the heat tool unless embossing, heating gesso/ texture paste can create fumes which shudn't be inhaled in large quantities, and specially by kids)

Have you started creating your projects for this time's challenge yet...... its a very simple but interesting one:

Challenge #39

Black + White + a POP of one other colour
You can read the detailed post on the challenge here.

At first I was wondering how to create an interesting layout using just 3 colours ; texture and layers came to my rescue. There is no pattern paper on this layout - just washi tape and lots of packaging material from all the texture stamps I buy :) Here is a close up

No brownie points for guessing - the Pop colour is BLUE. Its amazing the tones of colour one can achieve from a single cake of watercolour - add water to get a subtle wash, create stains, add more colour to get a depth for splats.

Now, include a few more items - 3d gel, stamps, gesso and washi tape and you can create this. I forgot to take pictures while creating, but here is a step by step of how gel medium was used.

 1. My base is watercolour paper. Randomly stamp Kaisercraft dictionary stamp or any other texture stamp. Lulupu has recently added some beautiful Kaisercraft texture stamps. Use Archival or Prima Resist chalk inks. These are permanent and wont react when painted over with watercolours. If however, you stamp with distress inks, it will react with the watercolour and change the original colour you are painting. (Now that gives a very cool effect too, but not what I wanted for this layout)

2. Place a stencil over the stamped area and apply 3d gel medium. Let dry completely. It dries transparent.

3. Paint over with watercolour. The gel medium will resist the paint and give a beautiful effect. The same techniques were used to create the blue tag tucked under the photos.

4. Outline some of the stenciled shapes, Stamp over the gel medium with a permanent ink or gesso.

There really isn't much more to my layout. Washi tape stuck on packaging material is the layer behind the photographs. All the die cuts have been cut out of packaging material on the Silhouette Cameo and painted with black gesso. Finally, black glass glitter and sequins added using matt multi medium.

If you have never used watercolours before, do give it a go. I bought myself a Mr Huey's watercolour set from Lulupu a few months ago and until then was super scared of free style painting. But now Im hooked - if I can do it, so can you.

I hope to have sparked your creativity in some way today. You can link your projects for this challenge here.

Challenge # 39
{ Guidelines for the challenge }
1. Create a project using only three colors - that is Black,White and any one other color of your choice.
2. You can create either a Card/LO/Tag based on only on these three colors. Other colors cannot be combined even in a small amount in your project or your entry will be disqualified.

4. And, most important of all, do have fun :)

You can check out the general guidelines for our challenges HERE.

And here's is what you can win by playing along our challenge this time !!

Hello Sunshine - 6x6 Paper Pack

Isn't it just fabulous !!

Here's my take on the challenge :

As you can see, I decided to go with yellow as my pop of color. I have done a layered card using an  embossed background, paper and dies to create the whole look. I have tried to keep the embellishments to the minimum so as to make my three colors the hero of my card. There are so many possibilities with Black and white plus one color! You can go CAS or layered, or mixed media or just about anything as long as you limit your project to just 3 colors.

The flowers and leaves on my card are die cut and just embossed using a stylus to give them dimension the small rose buds are also handmade using the same flower die which is the Joy craft Floral flourishes (Flower 3).
That's it from my end hope you like my card and it inspires you! :)
Would love to see your take on this challenge, so please do play along to win some really exciting prizes. :)

Guest Designer - Pooja

Hello friends!
It's me Jaya here on the Lulupu blog.
Today we have as our Guest designer a very talented lady who never stops to astonish us with her outstanding creativity! A well known name in the world of paper crafts and a beautiful person by heart. One of my very favourites.
Please welcome Pooja from Reusing,Cards & Quilling.

Let's hear it from the lady herself.

Hello Friends!  I am very happy to share my contribution as GD for Lulupu’s Current challenge .Thanks to Karuna and Lulupu Team for this honor. Jaya has challenges us to create anything as long as it has minimum 3 Washi tape along with a geometric shape/readymade embellishment. I have had washi tape rolls since long and never used it properly and had it not been for this challenge I they still won’t have seen light of the day! Thanks for this interesting theme Jaya J

I made this card with a “music lover” in mind .Started with drawing the headphone and fussy cut it keeping mobile/iPod shaped window in middle, decorated it with hounds tooth washi tape. For the background I used water colour paper and painted circles freehand with water colours and outlined with blue gel pen, drew the phone/iPod and outlined with black gel pen, stamped music notes in light blue memento ink and used music notes washi tape to go with the theme. Popped the earphone with foam tape on water coloured panel and adhered the panel on handmade card base with foam Tape. I used alphabet stickers for words and matted them on washi tape strips.

I have a small pictorial to create washi tape flowers, dahlia fold style. I had seen such flowers with pattern paper .Here I used washi tape to create my own pattern paper.

I made a card using these flowers. The bouquet background is created using stencil and Mini Distress Inks from Kit #4 that I received from Lulupu. I have used peach colored handmade paper for card base. The sentiment is hand cut from thick paper, coated with glue , covered it with Martha Stewart loose glitter  and sealed with Sakura Gloss medium. Adhered it on a Vellum Strip

I hope you enjoyed my cards and tutorial. DO check my Blog Reusing,Cards & Quilling (http://reusingwithquilling.blogspot.com)

Well that was some awesome inspiration from our Guest Designer for the fortnight, Pooja. I am sure she inspired you to whip up something creative with washi tapes. Still some time left to enter the Anything with washi tape challenge so submit your creations here.

Have a great day!
