Update on Winner of Challenge #22 - Cook it up.

An extremely unfortunate and disheartening incident has been brought to our notice, hence this post. It breaks our heart to say this, but it needs to be spelled out. We are appalled by the fact that one of our challenge participants has used someone else's layout and passed it off as her own. Had we known about this, under no circumstances would we have selected the entry as the winner. We thank the crafter who brought this up and routed us to the original blog post made in 2010.

Stealing someone's image(s) is immoral and unethical. When a crafter enters a project to our challenges, we trust that it is made by them and do not doubt their abilities and creativity. We believe that as a community of passionate crafters, we are absolutely capable of creating something on our own.

Also, as there are a lot of crafters who do not blog at all, when we see a new entry with a new blog with just that one post, we do not automatically doubt the ownership of the images. And when we were scanning the entries, we loved the brilliant work amongst all and decided to reward the participant as the winner.

We are in the process of addressing this with the participant and simultaneously exploring avenues to ensure such incidents do not happen in the near future. You can expect an update from us in this regard in the near future.

As a word of caution, we would also like to advise our participants that there is a strong possibility that our projects / images can be stolen and passed off as someone else's. So one of the steps one can take is watermark the images at prominent locations which cannot be cropped or makes it difficult for an individual to reproduce as their own. It is difficult to control to actions or desire of an individual to copy someone’s work, but we can safeguard our own work, should it ever land in the wrong hands.

Please be assured that we are working on addressing this issue and will do the needful. Look forward to your cooperation.

Thank you,
Team Lulupu.

  2. Horrible act! Watermark will definitely help to a great extent...I hope the new rules will deter people from carrying out such disgusting acts.

    2. Sonia, she did not disgrace just India, she disgraced the whole crafting Community. Let us not let 1 person bring all of us down. We have a tremendous amount of talent coming out of India, and the crafters in your country have so much to offer in creativite inspiration. Please dont feel this way. I am glad that we are so close as a crafting community that we all have each others backs. xo

  6. So glad to see that you have written this post and shared for all to see. What this woman did was awful. The real artist ~Luzma~ is a wonderful caring and creative artist. Such a shame that she had her work stolen! You have done the right thing to revoke this thief's submission!

  9. Thanx Lulupu, for the prompt action. I am completely appalled by this! Specially since I loved the said layout and even praised her! My heart really goes out to Luz Maria; it must be really distressing to see your work ripped off so blatantly!

  10. Thank you so much for this post. I know Luzma's work for a long time and I can recognize her girl all the time. I wonder if you will contact the person who did it? You must to have a contact and even an address to her since you sent her a prize? This person is not posting anything else on a blog...maybe she has another one. Do you really know her?

  13. it's a shame that it happened, both for Luzma and for you to have to make such an apology. I hope I am optimistic in saying that for the most part, I find scrapbookers to be very honest when it comes to submitting work so let's not let a few bad apples spoil our creativity! i personally don't know how to apply watermarks and don't care if you copy/scraplift but I WOULD mind someone using my photographs! Who does that???!! You guys are great for addressing the issue in a sensitive way :) :)

  16. As a Designer myself, and a friend to dear Luzma, it makes me extremely sad to know that our work is so vulnerable to thieves who have no creative mind of their own. I myself have had work taken and passed on as someone elses. Watermarks are a good deterrent, but not always as Photoshop experts can remove them easily. What happened to morals, ethics and responsible judgement. Shame on the person who used Luzmas work and used Lulupu to advertize it for a prize. Sad.... Thank you to Team Lulupu for bringing this subject to the forefront and addressing the matter quickly. Kudos to you.

Thank you for the update xxx Amy
