Embossing Paste Techniques

Dolly here, I hope you all had a lovely Valentines Day Celebration with your beloved ones. We are so excited to see the entries for the current challenge at Lulupu - Love you SWEETS. Please remember to link your creations for this challenge till the 28 Feb 2015.

Today's post will be a little different from the usual because I will be sharing a couple of techniques which you can try using embossing/ texture paste. I hope you try the techniques and share your creations with us :)

1. Colouring Embossing paste

For this technique, I mixed the embossing paste with some distress inks before using it with a stencil and as you can see you get a lovely color with the embossing paste. The white embossing paste can be turned into any color by using colored inks. The best inks to work with the embossing paste would be the distress inks/stains/re-inkers. Always remember to mix the embossing paste with the ink on a craft sheet. If you do not have a craft sheet, you can also use acetate sheet. It works just fine. Don't forget to clean your stencil and craft mat immediately after working with embossing paste since the paste hardens after drying.

Once the background for the cards was made with the colored embossing paste and some Prima stencil, I just had to add the sentiment and some embellishment to complete my cards.

2. Embossing paste and glitter

For this card, I just mixed some fine gold glitter with the embossing paste to use with the stencils. The look you get by mixing the glitter is super cool to look at. The close up picture show the gold glitter mixed with the paste. Tip: Do not mix a lot of glitter since the embossing paste would then not dry properly and the chances of sticking to the paper reduces.

Once the background was done, I completed the card with the sentiment. Its a pretty clean and simple card with a lovely touch of glitter.

3. Stamping on Embossing paste

Now this technique is my favourite, since the texture which you get it really amazing. For this tag which I created using the embossing paste, I just created a layer of the paste on the tag and then pressed a background stamp on the paste directly to get the texture imprinted on the tag. Tip: Mist the stamp surface with few drop of water which will help in the stamp not sticking to the paste. One the paste dries up, I colored it using some distress inks and added copper dust for some interest.

To create the card, I just scored the border using the score board and used the tag as the main focal point. You can see the texture in the close up picture :) Its beautiful in real.

Envelope Punch Board - Tag Book Tutorial

This is Tanvi wishing you a very happy Monday morning!

Sharing a mini tag book I made using the WRMK  envelope punch board. I intend to use it as a birthday/anniversary reminder booklet. This is very easy peasy & quick to make with punch board.........simply trim the paper to the required size.........punch & score. All the six pockets & tags I have in my book were ready in minutes!

Here is a video (this is my first attempt at making one, so please do leave a comment to help me improve) showing you the basics to create an envelope & also how to use it to make the tags.

Now isn't this super simple & how user friendly the punch board is!

Once you have the six envelopes & six tags for this mini, embellish/stamp/decorate each one of these.
Make a chip board cover, punch & use a ribbon/scrapbook ring/twine to hold all the pockets together.

I love the wood veneer speech bubble  & the flower weave trim here!



The new crochet laces at the store were perfect to highlight the little pockets! I have six tags (1 for 2 months).

Used the enchanted garden & lady rose stamps from Kaisercraft to stamp some quotes in the inside.

Guest Designer - Poornima Jain

Hello crafty friends,

We have had some really pretty pink & red creations. To tingle your creativity more, we have a tutorial by a very talented crafter Poornima Jain from Paper Craft Horizon. She is a regular participant in our challenges and has been featured and won challenges with us in the past.

To get to know her better, we asked her a few questions, here is what she had to say:

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
I am from holy city of Rajasthan - Ajmer. I am software professional, instructor and now an author of programming book too. Crafting is my passion and I craft whenever I get time(usually at night). I live in a big joint family. My mom & my nephew are my biggest critic and admirer.

2. How did you become interested in crafts and what inspired you to start blogging?
I was always involved in some or other crafting form since childhood. Taking part in different Drawing and Painting competitions at school, college and district level were among them. I was searching for scrapbooking ideas for my nephew and all of sudden I saw punches on a site. At the same time my friend gifted me 2 punches. I searched for ideas on internet. My curiosity made me explore the entire world of paper crafting. Then I came across blogs of Indian bloggers like Spardha, Tejal, Priya Sivraj, Karuna and eventually I started my blogging journey in Nov. 2011. And blogging opened all the doors then.

3. What are some of your "go-to" supplies for crafting?
MS Scoreboard, Fiskars Paper Trimmer, Cardstock, Distress Inks
 

4. What is your favorite crafting technique?

Die Cutting, Embossing and Distressing are one of my favorite crafting techniques

5. How would you describe your crafting style?

I can’t stick to a particular style for long. I love to try different styles and this is what I have done so far. I work more with pastel colors.

6. How long have you been crafting?

It has been 3 years of crafting now.

8. Who are some of your influences? Who has been your inspiration?
Among the Indian bloggers these crafters have inspired me the most – Hussena , Rajni Chawla, Ujjwal, Dr. Sonia. Among International bloggers Beate Johns, Kristina Werner,Jennifer Mcguire, Becca Feeken, Gabriella Pollacco are my favorite. I have learned a lot from them.

9. When not crafting, what keeps you busy?
I either do image editing in Photoshop or watch crafting videos

10. What are you currently working on?

MDF Frames and Fridge Magnets.

Here's what She has to share with us.

Today, I'm sharing a step by step tutorial on creating background using tissue and few other things.

Take a cardstock and punch out few shapes. You can use die cuts too.

Make a thick stack of shapes and glue them on cardstock with Mod Podge either in a sequence or randomly. Then apply a generous amount of Mod Podge  all over the cardstock. Crush a tissue to get wrinkles. Open it and stick it to the cardstock gently. Press it so that tissue firmly sticks to cardstock. Make sure to press specially around die-cut borders so that we get prominent shape through tissue.

If tissue tears up then just apply Mod Podge and place tissue piece back in place.Use heat gun to dry the cardstock to speed up the drying process. Keep heat gun at a distance from tissue. Cut the extra tissue with scissor.

Now pull out distress inks of your choice and apply them on tissue.

Now apply Versamark ink randomly here and there. Add UTEE Gold and heat emboss it. To add shine I have applied Silver Perfect Pearls with brush. This is optional. To give background a shabby look apply white acrylic color with brush around edges . I have used texture paste for the same.
