Product Review: The Envelope Maker!

Hey everyone..

Pratiksha here today. Its a Product review time. So i thought how about a little tute on latest product at Lulupu.com

Its the best buy that I've ever made after I purchased my big shot!!

Oh yes, dont forget to take part in Lulupu's share and win contest. Just post a project with 2 or more lulupu goodies :)

Ofcourse one can make envelopes with scoreboards as well, but this one makes life sooooo easy! Trust me! Because it also does the punching saving you time on cutting the corners! :) All you have to do is simply choose the size of the envelope you want from the sizes listed on the board itself and simply trim your paper down to the measurements mentioned. Then rotate and punch at the measurement and score and thats it!
ITS EASY PEASY!

STEP1: Gather your supplies- paper, some adhesive, and the board :)

STEP 2: Using the grid mentioned, place your sheet at the specific measurement and punch, then score.

STEP 3: Rotate your sheet and then align your score line with the little blue line at the centre.

STEP 4: Repeat for all four sides

STEP 5: Place your corners at the back of the punch (its a corner rounder as well!)

STEP 6: Fold your scored lines and glue!

Like i said.. Easy! :)

TIPS:

1. Make sure that you align your first measurement accurately or you will have a wonky envelope.
2. Same goes for aligning the score lines with the blue tip.
3. The bone folder is best used at 45' angle else it might pierce your paper.
4. Although it works with most papers, very thick papers may not punch cleanly.

I also love the fact that the bone folder is within the board itself hence no fear of losing it! And also that the inbuilt corner rounder is so convenient!! It rounds almost all my papers.. :)

Here is how I used my envelopes. I've used memory box dies on all of them. Aren't they beautiful? Clean cut lines with beautiful shapes! Check them out at the Lulupu store here!

Don't forget to take part in this month's challenge Colour crush-twist use dies. Its great fun and what lovely colours to work with! :)

Love
Pratiksha

Memory Box + Bonus Inspiration!!

Good morning crafters!! (Although, I am guessing it might already be after noon by the time I am done posting :P)

Nikita here and today, I am going to talk about Memory Box Dies that are available in abundance at the Lulupu Store. They are unique and their designs are so amazing that they easily manage to make the most simplest of projects, awesome with just a die cut added in the mix. And as this month's challenge requires you to add a die cut to your project, I'm hoping it will be helpful. :)

Product Review - Mod Podge!

Hey ya people,

Hope you are all well and enjoying the month here at Lulupu with lots of inspiration from the fabulous members of the design team.

Before I begin to talk about the product that is up for review today, I would like to take a moment and talk about a little something else :)

As you know, my term at Lulupu is coming to an end this month and this is my last post as the Design Team member here, I would like to thank everyone who is a part of Team Lulupu - the owner and a good friend Karuna, our sweet blog coordinator Nikita, all the fellow design team members Snehal, Isha and Indira and all the wonderful challenge participants and readers for all the love and appreciation they have blessed me with over the course of last 6 months. Working here has been a wonderful opportunity with so much to learn and something new to look forward to every month. It has been a beautiful ride!

Lulupu is now looking for new team members. If you think you will be a good match for Lulupu team, today is the last day to apply for the Design Team. Find all the details here.

So now, let's begin talking (some more) about the much talked about product called Mod Podge :)

Mod Podge is a little bottle of magic milky liquid that is a glue, a sealer and a varnish all in one. It is no less than a miracle, I think (and so does a lot of other people :))

Why a miracle you may ask, here's why :

- it can be used on ANY porous surface - paper, wood, cardboard, chipboard, fabric, cork and more!
- it is THE best decoupage medium ever - it dries clear, it dries fast and is water based which means it is super easy to clean the mess after your master piece is complete :)
- it is non-toxic and that means it is safe for kids to use and have fun creating their little art works.
- it protects your surface from moisture and acts as a sealer. So while I wouldn't want to dip my mod podge covered art work in a bucket full of water, it does gives me the option to wipe of the dust from my art work every now and then with a damp cloth.
- it comes in variety of formulas/finishes that allows you to use it for pretty much everything imaginable.

And these are basically the reasons why everyone loves Mod Podge :)

Let's talk a little about the variety of finishes/formulas that the Mod Podge range offers and what's the difference between each.

Classic Mod Podge: This is an year round Mod Podge that works for all types of projects and most surfaces. Comes in gloss and matte finish.

Satin Mod Podge: This is just like classic mod podge only difference being the satin finish. It gives a lustrous, soft appearance somewhere between a matte and gloss. The scratches are less visible on satin surfaces when compared to gloss or matte.

Fabric Mod Podge: This is specifically used to prepare fabric for decoupaging to surfaces and for decoupaging things onto fabric. It eliminates fraying.

Paper Mod Podge: This formula was created for more advanced paper projects, such as scrapbooking. It also comes in a gloss and matte finish. Paper Mod Podge keeps photos and papers from yellowing and it extends the life of scrapbooking projects.

Hard Coat Mod Podge: This is mostly used for furniture. It has an extremely durable finish and it provides extra protection for projects that are used and handled more often. It also has a satin finish so it doesn’t show scratches and marks like the gloss or matte.

Outdoor Mod Podge: This formula protects your projects from moisture and other elements, which makes it great for clay pots and other outdoor creations. For added durability, it is recommended to also use an outdoor sealer.

Brushstroke Mod Podge: This formula gives you the look of a hand painting. It’s very textured and dimensional. It also comes in a clear gloss or matte finish.

Sparkle Mod Podge: It contains hologram glitter pieces that give it a rainbow effect in a gloss base. The more coats you add, the more sparkle and shine that is added to your project. And I have heard it's awesome. :)

Kids Wash Out Mod Podge: It is specially designed for children to use. Parents will love this one because it will wash out of children’s clothing and furniture with ease. This formula also has a glossy finish.

Glow in the Dark Mod Podge: For the best glowing effect, you’ll need to apply several coats. It’s great for children’s projects. You can’t really see the finish, but it glows-in-the-dark! Expose to light to recharge.

Antique Mod Podge: This is perfect for anyone who loves an antique feel. It allows you to get that aged, vintage look with just one coat. It has a slight brown tint and it comes in a matte finish.

Special Formulas to Know There are a few special Mod Podge formulas that don’t do the gluing, but they act as special finishes and are complimentary to all of the Mod Podge products above. Here they are.

Mod Podge Super GlossYou can’t glue with the Super Gloss; the goal here is to get a smooth, epoxy-like finish over a large area. To use, Mod Podge your pieces down with another formula. Then use the Super Gloss over the top. it’s self-leveling and thicker than regular Mod Podge. So it gives you a very shiny, clear finish that looks like epoxy but isn’t (it’s not as thick as Dimensional Magic for those who are wondering).A super shiny, clear finish that is a little bit more thick than regular Mod Podge.

Mod Podge Dimensional MagicTraditional resins give you a hard, varnish finish but are toxic and require mixing – not Dimensional Magic! This product adds an epoxy-like finish to jewelry and paper crafts and dries clear. You can layer Dimensional Magic on top of itself (let it dry between layers). This formula comes in Clear, Gold Glitter and Silver Glitter. Get the look of resin or epoxy without the toxicity and mixing. Dries clear and dimensional.

Mod Podge Photo Transfer Medium: Use this medium to transfer photocopied images onto fabric. It works with both black and white and color copies as well as both light and dark fabrics. The formula is water-based and the results are permanent and machine washable (cool water; gentle cycle).

Note: I have not used all the above mentioned formulas personally(even though I wish I could own at least one of each type one day :D), but have collected the data over the internet to help you out and get all the information in one place.

Out of all the above mentioned, I have had the opportunity to try two of the formulas(Mod Podge Classic Matte Finish and Mod Podge Dimensional) till now and I am super happy with the results.

Here's are a couple of my recent projects using Mod Podge

I loved working on this MDF shadow box. All the layers of papers and die cuts were stuck using Mod Podge Classic Matte Finish and then given another coat over the top to seal the surface. The inside is filled with quilled flowers and the center has a space to put a photograph.
I personally feel that Mod Podge rocks the MDF projects and for me it has become a necessity. By the way, Lulupu stocks a great range of MDF items that are ready to be decoupaged and turn into beautiful pieces of art.

Here is another view

The second project that I did was with Mod Podge Dimensional.

These cute little photo magnets were created using chipboard and were a Mother's Day gift for my mum and mum-in-law. I used Mod Pod Dimensional of these to give the magnets a resin like raised finish.

Here are some pointers to keep in mind while working with Mod Podge:

- Smooth out air bubbles right away because the Mod Podge does dry kind of quick. And well, I did have some showing on the magnets above though they are not visible in the picture :)
- Mod Podge has a tendency to show brush marks. For best results use a sponge applicator/brushes.
-For best adhesion, apply a coat of Mod Podge to both the backside of whatever material you are using (paper, fabric, metal, poster, glass, paper mache, wood, etc.) as well as to the front side of the surface.
- Allow the first coat to dry for at least 15 mins before you start with the next coat.
- Surfaces like, paper and chipboard tends to bend a little when Mod Podge is applied. Do not worry, it will straighten out once the Mod Podge has dried.
- It helps to use a brayer to smooth out paper and adhere it firmly to the surface. You can also try using Mod Podge Foam Roller Tops.
- It is an awesome thing to experiment with and try out new fun stuff.

So if you have never used this amazing product, now is the time to try. If you need more ideas on what to do with Mod Podge, you the visit Mod Podge rocks :)

Have fun creating and stay blessed!

P.S. You can still come see me on my personal blog if you miss me here :)

Product Review - Chalkboard Paint

Yellow folks!!!

How have you all been? I'm sure everyone's been awesome. I'm really excited to be back. Well, technically, I was never away, but for the past few months I wasn't actively involved in 'creating' anything for Lulupu; just behind the scenes kind of a thing. But from this month onwards, I'll be sharing with you guys again and it feels really good.

As far as today's post is concerned, I'm going to be talking about a product from the Lulupu Store - the Chalkboard Paint. It is such a great product that I am kind of feeling bad about buying it months ago but using it only in the past few days, that too, just because I had to review it. Sigh!! Married life leaves little time for other things. :P

Product Review : Distress Inks

Good morning

Its Isha here with a product review on our very favourite Ranger Distress inks I hope to share with you the fun you can have with these gorgeous and versatile water based ink and hope this post helps beginners picking up their very own distress ink pads.

I  enjoy creating , greeting cards, scrapbook layouts , and other paper craft projects  and I rarely
create anything without stamping or inking at least some of the papers and embellishments used in each project. I have tried  quite a few different ink pads, but Distress Inks are somehow my favorite.

Distress Inks are acid-free water-based dye inks that are safe to use in scrapbooks. They are fade resistant, meaning that if you store and care for your projects carefully, the inks will last for a long time, as these inks are non-toxic.

Size and Storage

Distress Ink pads are easy to use and store. They don't take up much space; the entire container measures approximately 3 inches square by three-quarters of an inch high, and they can be stacked on top of each other for easy storage. The actual felt inkpad area measures approximately 2 inches square, a convenient size for both stamping and direct-to-paper applications. The ink pad is not "squishy" like some ink pads are.

Techniques and Usages

Distress inks  are versatile, and they can be used to create a variety of effects and techniques. The most obvious use for them is stamping. They can be used with both clear stamps and rubber stamps. Good part is you dont always require stamps to effectively use Distress Inks. You can ink directly on papers, fibers, ribbons, embellishments and photos. Like the name suggests, you can use these inks to create a distressed look, or to "age" your papers and create a vintage or antique look.
The colors are all outstanding, and they generally work well with each other when they are used together in projects , as TIMMY  says they are “ BLEND-ABLE”

Choosing from over 48 colours can be overwhelming but to begin with here are few colours you can consider to begin your inky maddness -

Essential Tools
When working with distress inks there are few essential tools one requires to work with-

1. Craft sheet  - A one time investment to keep your work surface ink free. You can use this sheet practically for any kind of stamping and embossing purpose. Just use a wet wipe or paper towel to keep it clean. I have had mine for longer than i remember!

2. Ink blending tool  - You can have 2 or 3 tools and interchangeably use them with the foams.

3. Blending foam - Its ideal to have one blending foam for each ink and if you use them correctly they go a long way.

What makes Distress Inks different from other inks.
STAYS WET LONGER – (allows you to blend and shade on photos and paper – also emboss) other dye inks dry too fast especially on photos so you end up with lines and marks if you go direct from the pad.
COLOR WICKS OR SPREADS OUT – (these inks will travel across the surface of your paper when spritzed with water) other dyes do not travel as much although they might bleed a little when wet, the Distress Inks actually “wick” or spread out much further creating several tone on tones.
COLOR STABILITY – (the colors of the Distress Inks will not break down when wet or heated allowing you to have more color control for the finished look) other “brown colored” dyes will break down when water is added leaving a pink & green hue.
Lulupu Store is flooded with Distress inks and we have all the 48 colours along with the basic essential tools to help you get started with your inky fun! Grab your shades before they go out of stock. Hurry !!

I am leaving you with this Video Tutorial with some basic techniques and tips on Distress inks for beginners . Enjoy!

In my opinion, Distress Inks are well worth the money.  I am happy to recommend Distress Inks to all card makers and paper crafters.
I hope you found this review helpful. I welcome your comments and feedback. Happy crafting!
Love

Product Review: Watermark Stamp Pad - Top Boss vs Versamark vs Micia

Watermark ink pads are one of the essentials products you need when you sit down to craft. But which one to go for?!
There are not a lot of Watermark Stamp Pads to choose from out there in the market. Earlier, before the Versamark era, there was only one brand available: Top Boss. I remember buying it.. as it was my first watermark stamp pad and was really excited to use it.. then followed Versamark and I have never looked back to Top Boss after that.. but currently my top favorite is Micia Watermark Stamp pad.. Why?!

Read further..

Please note: The card stock I've used for this post is slightly textured, so that you get to see the result of each product on a textured card stock.

Top Boss:

Here is an example of an image stamped and heat embossed using Top Boss Embossing Stamp Pad.

You can see it does not give a very clear and a crisp image. Infact, while using Top Boss, you gotta make sure you use your embossing powder quickly as it dries very quick. Thus, it is not the best product to try the Watermark technique with. It is also not as sticky as it is supposed to be which is why the powder does to stay on to the paper very well.

Top Boss was the only Watermark Pad available in the store I bought from 4 years ago.. and I was pretty happy with it as a beginner at crafting. This was the first watermark pad I ever owned before I got a Versamark.

It is also very economical but you do have to reink the pad regularly as it gets over quick.

One of the pros about this product is that since it does not have a very sticky texture it does not leave a lot of sticky residue back on to the stamp

Conclusion: Not highly recommended. Can give it a miss.

Versamark

Versamark stays wet longer and is also stickier thus you get finer and a detailed image.

Its the best for watermarked effect as it leaves a permanent watermark. *caution* If you try this technique on scrapbooks, (which you'd want to preserve for a longer time) then its suggested you use clear embossing powder on it as it is said to fade off over years.

It leaves a sticky residue on the stamp which takes a while to clean.

Its a very versatile product and there are so many different techniques you can try out with this pad. Watermark, heat emboss, use it with dry pearl powder, Brayer Resist.. to name a few. I once used it to stamp on a glass container and it work perfect!

You also get to buy a refill for it. (available at Lulupu)

Conclusion: Highly Recommended

Micia Watermark Pad

Its not a very well known brand as Top Boss or Versamark but I must say it is my current favorite especially for heat embossing.

Since it has a stickier texture than Versamark you tend to get as crisper an image as Versamark.. infact at times even better. Its way too under-priced when compared to its usefulness.

I would not highly recommend it for Watermark technique as it is not a very wet stamp pad as Versamark.

I am still exploring this product so have not really tried out a lot of techniques with this stamp pad but I have a very good feeling about this one.

I strongly recommend everybody to try this product out once to see what I mean.. Since its also cheap, I bet you wont regret your decision. :)

Conclusion: Highly Recommended for heat Embossing

Hope you find this post helpful! :)

Have a great day!

- Shruti

Please Note - All the above information is based on my humble opinion.
