Mini mixed media canvas with a tutorial.!

Hi everyone,
        Riswana here today with a mini mixed canvas project & also a pictorial for the same.!

This canvas measures 3"×2.25". I love to work with small canvases & miniatures as it's very challenging to add details in such tiny spaces. So let's get on with the steps.!

Step 1 - Adding textures:
    First let's add some texture to our canvas. Stick pieces of gauze cloth & tissue paper randomly & let it dry. (Don't forget the sides)

Step 2 - Stencilling
     Add more texture by applying texture paste through a stencil.
I used Ranger texture paste & Prima Fading Floral stencil.

Step 3 - Priming with gesso
     After the texture paste has dried completely, Coat the whole canvas with gesso.

Step 4: Adding colours
   Now let's add some colours with Ink sprays. You can use any color sprays/mists for that matter.

Step 5: Bring out relief areas
    Making sure to dry completely in between each step is the key here. So once the colors are dry, apply some gesso to bring out the relief areas. Use a completely dry brush/sponge or your fingers like I did.
Add some glitter if you wish to make the background more interesting. I used a tiny amount of Faber castell glass bead glitter gel.

Step 6: Embellishments
    Make some embellishments to go with the background. I made two different blooms using the EK tools retro flower medium punch & peacock feathers distress inks.

To jazz them up a little, I added rhinestones & also Diamond dust. I stamped the flourishes from Mudra's fancy flourish stampset with green pigment ink.
Fussy cut it & added more dimension using an embossing tool.

Add a baker's twine to the metal plate charm. Also add some Inka Gold (aquamarine blue) to mute down the sheen a bit & give a worn look. Adhere the embellies the way you want and you are done.!!!

More techniques using Viva Decor - Inka Gold Silver

Hello everyone.

Today I am going to share some more techniques of usage of Viva Decor - Inka Gold. You must have seen some of its uses here in a post of our past DT member Roshni. Here are some additions to it.

Inka gold is a versatile product which can be used on almost all surfaces, be it metal, wood, glass or paper. Keeping it in mind, I used it for colouring something very different, my old earrings. It may sound strange as it sounded to me ;) but it was really a fun and a good resulting try. Let me start with how i did it.

This is how earrings were before i applied inka gold. I took a sponge and started applying it. It's just so quick to dry and here is what it resulted in..

See the difference. I was very excited when I saw this.

I was so happy that now I will be able to wear them again. :)

My second try was to use it with stencil. So I though of a tag. I started with Heidi Swapp stencil and sponge. 

I put the same stencil here and there to cover other bank areas and decorated it. 

I distressed the tag with inka gold and the sentiment was also stamped with the Inka gold. So many uses. :)

And now the last one, altering a glass bottle. 

This is how the bottle looked before altering.

I colored whole bottle with fingers and then finished the same by rubbing the whole bottle with sponge to make it look shinier and smoother. Photo doesn't justify the real shine of bottle.

Adding details to solid stamped images- Video tutorial

Hi everyone!

Sindhura here. Today, I have a video Tutorial to share with you. It is all about adding details to solid stamped images.

There are many ways to add more interest to solid images. I saw a video by Jennifer Mcguire where she shows one of the the techniques I used here. She used dye inks for the technique. I extended it to distress inks using the same technique. :)

I made cards with the flowers I stamped and coloured. I also wanted to use patterned papers on my cards. Will link the supplies at the end of the post. 

This is my first ever video, so it is far from perfect but I tried my best to show you the techniques. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding the techniques used or the products.

Easy to make cards with stamps and pattern papers

         Riswana here with you today. Am so excited to be sharing my first DT post on the Lulupu blog.!

   

Did you check the new Challenge #63 - Sketch for this month?! Here's my take on the beautiful sketch by Sindhu.

I've used the "Enchanted" paper collection from simple stories for this card. I love love love these papers with their beautiful pastel shades & so many 'princess'y elements :)

I've used a regular paper punch to add some holes & fussy cut to make the PP look like a notepad paper & crushed a little bit to add some texture.

To make the focal point, Added some glass bead glitter gel & sprinkled some pink micro beads on the bg. Fussy cut the crown & star wand images from the paper pack & heat embossed with clear sparkle embossing powder. I also embossed the swirls in the second layer with the same EP.

Added wink of stella clear glitter & glossy accents, on some areas to add more sparkle & shine.

For the sentiment, Made a banner out of the PP & mounted with foam squares.

This card is super sparkly in person & I wish I could have captured it all in picture.!

Here's another simple & fun card with a totally different look.

I used Mudra play with lines stampset & memento dye inks to create the striped bg. Added a layer of vellum & mounted the flowers & sentiment banner to finish the card. The flowers are from inkadinkado doodle flowers stampset, stamped with Archival jet black ink, colored with Zig clean color real brush pens & a gemstone brad added in the center.

Sindhura here. I'm here to introduce you to our awesome Spotlight Designer- Suchismita.Suchismita won our May month challenge and we are delighted to have her as our guest.

Here is a bit about her-

1. Tell us a little about yourself and your family.

I live in Hyderabad, India with my husband and work at a professional services firm as a business editor. As a couple, we like to travel and, since my husband is a hobby photographer, we spend a lot of time taking, viewing, and talking about photos. My love for stationery and the abundance of photographs directly led into me finally taking the plunge in pursuing my new hobby--creating photo albums and scrapbooks.

2. How did you become interested in crafts and what inspired you to start blogging?

I was always fond of paper and stationery, and photo albums! (I browse family albums regularly, design and order photobooks online, the only home decor I buy are photo frames--I pretty much do anything I can to preserve memories.) I believe my scrapbooking efforts are my little way of preserving this love. Maybe this is why my albums until now have all been gifts for friends, or for my own use. Why I started blogging--well...all crafters know how we just CANNOT stop talking about papers and supplies and our work! I figured soon enough that my husband would have to look for alternative accommodation if he regularly had to admire all my papers and every new Pinterest discovery! I wanted to reach out to the crafting community to share my enthusiasm and excitement, and definitely to inspire and guide.  

3. What are some of your "go-to" supplies for crafting?

I'll combine tools and supplies: My Martha Stewart scoring board and burnish/scoring tool, (I can barely remember my life before buying this board! <3), my Fiskars paper trimmer (it's therapeutic!), American Crafts textured cardstock, Ranger distress inks, wet glue, handmade flowers, and metal findings (Tim Holtz and others)--chains, charms, gems, clasps...EVERY little thing! I love my Sizzix Big Shot too, but have not had as much chance to use it as I had originally imagined.  My current crush is the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board <3

4. What is your favorite crafting technique?

Given that I have only weekends to craft in, I am only about a 100 days (52 weekends in a year) old as a crafter--I don't think I have a favorite technique yet! Among the ones I currently use, distressing and dry embossing are my favorites! 

5. How would you describe your crafting style?

Elegant vintage is how I'd put it maybe--I love clean, interactive pages with beautiful messy clusters of metal and floral embellishments in the corner, or cute papers made into interactive pages with minimal embellishment. I am very fond of clever inserts and tag-along mini books inside albums.

6. How long have you been crafting?

About a year now, and been a blogger since February 2016.

7. My signature style

Distressed edges, chunky charm dangles, clusters of flowers and metal, photo frames/cameos, and lots of tags!

8. Who are some of your influences? Who has been your inspiration?

I will answer both together--Ginger Ropp of My Sisters Scrapper remains my favorite teacher, she is absolutely the best! I have also to thank Rina of Scrapbook Fashionista Designs by Rina for all the inspiration. There are a host of others whose work I absolutely adore (Shellie Geigle, Terry's Scrapbooks, Claire Charvill, Anne Rostad being a few of them)--but this blog post will never end if I were to list them all. A few Indian crafters whose work lured me into paper crafting are Rajni Chawla, Ashmita Roy (of Artsomecraft), and Kavitha (of Bitsnpieces).

9. When not crafting , what keeps you busy?

My full-time job during the week. Over the weekend, when I am not crafting, I spend my leisure reading (primarily fiction, politico-social non-fiction, and NO management/self-help books...that's just me!), watching movies indiscriminately--from arthouse cinema to 90s Bollywood potboilers (I love them ALL), catching up on TV shows (especially courtroom/cop/spy drama, thrillers), and ...occasionally...baking! :) I am a huge foodie but since the craft bug bit me, I have had to depend on Hyderabad's amazing restaurants and my loyal and very talented friends for scrumptious food :) 

10. What are you currently working on?
I just completed two guest design projects for the Artsomecraft blog--these were two mini albums featuring Kaisercraft Thread and Needle and Lake House Collections. Prima and Kaisercraft are my absolute favourites! I am enjoying a bit of a break right now (and stocking up on inspiration) before I jump into into a whole host of itty bitty mini albums--lots of presents overdue!

She made an adorable album for this post and we can't wait to share it with you!Over to her now..

Hi, everyone!

Very excited to share with you my first Guest DT project and tutorial for Lulupu.

Two things that are ruling my crafter consciousness right now are shaker frames (not featured here) and itty bitty mini albums (4x4 inches or smaller). I was wa-i-i-ting to start this project. Luckily for me, July 7 was a holiday for us here in Hyderabad and I got a chance to finish this little charmer--in one day! :D

My bag of goodies from Lulupu included this lovely pack of Prima Royal Menagerie flowers (seen on the cover)--and I just HAD TO use them! Since I did not have the Royal Menagerie collection, I dug around in my Prima stash and found the Debutante collection which was released at the same time as the Royal Menagerie and seemed to coordinate well with the latter.

The album measures 4.25x4.25 inches and the pages measure 4x4 inches. There are four page units, with a 0.5 inch gusset between pages. I have used a pure Tyvek Stack-the-Deck hinge system (designed by Laura Denison of Following the Paper Trail) for this album.







The spine is up-cycled packaging--corrugated brown paper which I painted white with gesso.





The brad holding the charm closure in place is a coordinating brad from the Debutante collection.

I'll quickly take you through the pages and inside flaps before we head to the project share video and tutorial--where I show you how to make each of the pages (with interactivity).

The page build is inspired by Image of the Creator on YouTube. From how far I could check, she does not have a tutorial for pages this size. I figured out the page build myself and modified it to add pockets and tags--I will show you how I went about it.

'Explore journey' card

Hello people.

It's Chirali here with my first DT post - my take on current challenge with a quick tutorial. I have made a sea themed 'Explore journey' card which went best with what I got in DT kit. 

Here it is:

First of all, on white cardstock, I adhered a patterned brown paper and kept aside. Then took a water resistant paper from French Riviera Prima Marketing Paintables which I have got in my DT pack. Its a damn cool paper pad with printed sheets and water resistant sheets of same images. Just add a watercolour on paper and you will see images coming out of it, that too with feeling of embossing. 

See the way it looks when I started colouring with distress inks.

Final one. I tore the sides of it and adhered with foam tape after adding doily both sides. And started decorating it. I used spellbinders die to create frames, a fussy cut gorjuss girl and vintage flourishes die from joy crafts. 

The main attraction of this card, according to me, is stamped and fussy cut corners of the main image. That is Mudra Vintagy Flourish stamp. I stamped them with two shades of distress inks- peacock feathers and cracked piatachio, and fussy cut it. A closer look at the same:

Other things like shell are from my stash. 

You can see that shine on paper, a feel of embossing.
